Participants will understand Oriel Square’s ‘Five Aspects of Representation’ and learn how to use them to prioritise intersectionality when creating educational content or adapting existing materials.

By the end of this course you will have:

  • understood Oriel Square’s Five Aspects ‘Specs’ of Representation and how to use them to prioritise intersectionality
  • identified problematic stereotypes and how to avoid them
  • learnt what authentic representation is and how it is achieved
  • learnt about the benefits of inclusive and representative educational content
  • assessed educational materials using the Five Aspects ‘Specs’ of Representation and identified how to make them more inclusive
  • learnt the skills to assess products and content through an intersectional lens and navigate the ‘EDI space’ with more confidence
  • have the tools to create your action plan for adapting your educational content

This course has been designed by Imaan Munir, Oriel Square’s Project Editor and Inclusion Lead.

The course will give participants the space to think creatively about navigating the EDI space, and provide the tools to start making essential changes to their educational content. This course is designed to provide clarity on a complex topic and give participants a greater understanding of the pitfalls and priorities in inclusion initiatives.

You will have an engaging in-person and collaborative learning experience, with access to follow-up advice. 

Where: This is an in-person course delivered at Oriel Square’s Regency-style office in central Oxford: 29 Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2NP.
